The Magic House opens satellite location on Delmar Boulevard
JUNE 6, 2019 POSTED BY GILBERTO PINELA

The Magic House is making history with the opening of its first permanent satellite location in St. Louis City on Friday, June 7.  Created in partnership with the Cortex Innovation Community and MADE STL, The Magic House @ MADE is located on Delmar Boulevard, just two blocks west of Kingshighway in the Academy neighborhood.  This new location features a Makerspace, a multimedia Art Studio, a Design Lab and an Entrepreneurs’ Marketplace. Children will have the opportunity to engage in real-world, hands-on STEAM experiences they can’t participate in elsewhere, from designing for a 3D printer to learning to code, and from building a robot to launching a business.

In celebration of the opening, community officials will gather on Thursday, June 6 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the new location. St. Louis Mayor Lyda Krewson, Square co-founder Jim McKelvey, Magic House President Beth Fitzgerald, and additional community partners will address attendees during this celebratory evening.

The Magic House @ MADE will provide elementary and middle school students with tools to foster their creativity and ignite a lifelong spirit of innovation,” said Beth Fitzgerald, President of The Magic House. “We are thrilled to have a permanent extension of our Magic House brand in the City of St. Louis.  In addition to reaching new children and families, we will also be able to increase our commitment in providing free services for children in need through partnerships with schools, libraries, and community organizations in the area.”

The creation of The Magic House @ MADE would not be possible without support from the Cortex Innovation Community who generously contributed $500,000 to assist with The Magic House satellite location’s equipment, exhibits, and operation, specifically helping to offer free admission and programs for children and families from underserved areas of St. Louis.  “The future is for our children; a future that will be created by technologies and innovation yet to be imagined. We need to inspire and encourage our youth to explore careers that are increasingly being driven by STEAM related professions. We are thrilled to partner with The Magic House to provide the opportunity for all of our region’s children to imagine and join in shaping and building their future,” said Dennis Lower, President, and CEO of Cortex.

In addition to Cortex’s generous support, the Ameren Corporation Charitable Trust has sponsored the location’s Makers Workshop with a generous contribution of $150,000. "Ameren has supported The Magic House's delivery of education and fun for decades," said Mark Lindgren, Senior Vice President, Corporate Communications and Chief Human Resources Officer for Ameren Corporation.  "As Ameren considers all the ingredients our region is mixing together to foster positive change, equitable opportunities, and innovation, The Magic House @ MADE arises as a unique and special leader for us all. We commend the dedicated team that worked to create this new location on Delmar, and we couldn't be more proud to partner in helping this project succeed."
