UNandUP, LLC (UN&UP, short for Unmet Needs and Underserved Population) is a life science company based in St. Louis, MO.

UN&UP (short for “Unmet Needs and Underserved Populations”) is the first Missouri company to receive 4 NIH SBIR Phase I awards within the same year, a feat accomplished by less than 2% of all companies that have applied for NIH SBIR Phase I funding. Awarding institutions include the National Cancer Institute, National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, and the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities. Thanks to the support of the CIC in St. Louis, located in the growing Cortex district, and strong relationships with prominent clinical and scientific researchers at the nation's leading research institutions, UN&UP has achieved this milestone a little more than a year after the company’s launch.

UN&UP is also one the first companies in the US to be awarded entry into the NCI SBIR CARE Program, a pilot program to encourage communications between small businesses and the FDA. Eligibility is limited to those companies developing potential technologies under the regulatory authority of the FDA Center for Devices and Radiological Health (CDRH).

The Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs are one of the largest sources of early-stage non-dilutive capital for technology commercialization in the United States. These programs allow US-owned and operated small businesses to engage in federal research and development that has a strong potential for commercialization. Each year, the National Institutes of Health’s SBIR and STTR programs invest over 1 billion dollars into health and life science companies that are creating innovative technologies that align with the NIH’s mission to improve health and save lives.

UN&UP is developing drug-delivery platforms for brain trauma and tumor destruction, and advanced robotic systems for interventional neurology and cardiology procedures. UN&UP is founded by Francis (Duke) Creighton and Peter Finley, who have previously led several successful St. Louis-based efforts. The company maintains strong relationships with top researchers, scientists, and clinicians from the nation’s leading institutions, which include Washington University in St. Louis, Saint Louis University, Carnegie Mellon, the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, the University of California at San Diego, the University of Iowa, the University of Florida, the AMES Research Laboratory, and the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory.
